Zaniac Explorer Camps

Discover and investigate! Explore biology, math, physics & the galaxy with a game your kids already love — Minecraft! Learn how to be an environmentally conscious urban planner and architect. Participate in this summer’s FIFA World Cup by designing soccer stadiums across di erent biomes. New challenges with Liquid Physics, Pistons and Newton’s Law. For the Young Explorers—STEAM Quest Park Camp! Campers will explore ramps, probability, preforming arts, gears, chain reaction all while building their own park! Be an Explorer
Minecraft Redstone Lab

Game-Based Learning using Minecraft™ Redstone is the circuit equivalent in Minecraft™ that allows campers to use electrical engineering concepts to create machines such as a clock or a calculator. In Zaniac’s Redstone Lab Camp, campers will learn about inputs, outputs, logic gates and more through the latest version of Minecraft™. Using their creativity and critical-thinking skills, campers will help scientists solve electrical challenges throughout the virtual laboratory.

Minecraft™ Your Future

Zaniac's Minecraft™ Your Future Camp is designed to groom an environmentally conscious generation of planners through the basics of urban planning, architecture and building designs. Campers research the type of structure they should build in view of the challenges of rapid urban growth, the rise of megacities, and the need to bridge supplies to cities and rising water levels. Campers learn to design using Minecraft™ and Tinkercad™. Students take turns telling stories about their newly built structures and settlement and how all of the places within it bring their miniature community together.

Minecraft™ FIFA World Cup

The 2018 FIFA World Cup is this June and we are Zaniac are so excited! What better way than to learn about geography through sports and Game-Based learning using Minecraft™ this summer? In Zaniac's Minecraft™ FIFA World Cup Camp students will study and explore similar biomes as that of the World Cup hosting country, Russia, or any other country that has hosted a FIFA World Cup. Students will learn about map making and will be challenged to design soccer stadiums across their biomes equipped with connecting rail systems, water supply and more with basic crafting and building creation.

Minecraft™ Space Travel

Commercial Space Travel may be just be around the corner for this Zaniac generation. NASA has provided us with the International Space Station as a test-bed and stepping stone for this challenging journey ahead. Minecraft™ Space Travel Camp adds rockets, planets, and space travel to the game. With an intro to physics and engineering, campers learn to build, prepare and launch a rocket. Campers are introduced to the International Space Station and space exploration though Galacticraft. Stops at the Moon and Mars are part of our trip. And given our environmental consciousness, we throw in an extra challenge: Zaniac's Space Junk Clean Up!

Minecraft™ Big Bang Theory

It is never too early to teach kids science literacy. Zaniac's Big Bang Theory Camp does just that in a fun and engaging way through Game-Based Learning using Minecraft™. We created challenges with Liquid Physics, Pistons, Energy, Newton's three laws and more. Each problem that campers encounter in this Minecraft™ challenge has a solution, but it takes a bit of problem solving to find it!. Students learn to devise a solid method to approach our problem solving: Plan, Construct, Test, and Refine with a whole lot of fun added to it.

Minecraft™ Squad Design

Based on PBS's reality competition Design Squad™, Zaniac’s Minecraft™ Squad Design camp focuses on math, science and the design process through Game-Based Learning using Minecraft™ and engaging camper’s curiosity regarding the world. Students are asked to identify and choose a real-world problem ranging from from urban overpopulation to structures needed to withstand earthquakes, areas lacking access to clean drinking water, to rising water levels and are then introduced to the design process. Students will learn the basics of urban planning and building design using Minecraft™and Tinkercad™ to design architectural solutions.

Be a Designer
Music Lab

Music Lab with Garage Band™ celebrates music by teaching kids how to create exciting beats using Garage Band™. Campers will get hands-on experience with real-world music production equipment to bring their song ideas to life! Music Lab is the perfect primer for beginners who want to learn the basics of one of the most popular and accessible DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) programs out there. Starting with the basics of musical notation and form, students work through looping, editing, sound manipulation, and capturing vocals and MIDI instrumentation to create their own music.

3D MakerLab

What does it take to become an inventor? 3D Maker Lab will engage campers with online digital creations of 3D models and teach them how to design pieces for 3D Printing using Autodesk TinkerCad™. Students will be immersed in the engineering and design process, printing their own unique and exciting ideas and turning them into a reality. Each student will be allowed to print 1 (one) project throughout the week.

3D Engineering Design Challenge

Learn how to use 3D Printers to solve structural problems. Campers will engage in different online digital creation of bridges, boats and cars solve real world problems using advanced 3D design with Autodesk TinkerCad™.
Camps for Kids in Grades 5-8.

3D Game Design

Looking for a camp that combines Design with Coding? Zaniac 3D Game Design camp teaches game design concepts such as formalism, abstractionism, rule implementation, challenge/reward balancing, game flow and paper prototyping. Campers create 3D character models using the modeling software Blender, and explore the history of video game design and how it relates to computer science as a field. Campers will use the Unity game engine to map 3D environments, apply attributes, then design textures in Gimp to overlay on your game world and will bring their environments and characters to life using C#, a real-world, object-oriented programming language and learn programming concepts like classes, methods, and strings to create C# Scripts.

FIFA World Cup Fashion Design

Inspired by the FIFA World Soccer Cup in June students will assemble your own FIFA World Cup National Uniforms or any other sports through exploration of color theory, careers, and the history and future of the World Cup uniforms. Fashion students will create one-of-a-kind looks using the open-source vector graphics software Inkscape. Assemble your own FIFA World Cup National uniforms through assembling mood boards, drawing vectors, arranging nodes, and layering color palettes

Be an Engineer
Space Engineering

Calling all young Inventors! Build your own Droid robot and bring it to life with littleBits electronic blocks. We will equip the Droid for different space missions using the Inventor App™. Students are introduced to concepts such as Force Drive and Self navigation. Youngsters will have a blast!

Environmental Engineering

Calling all nature lovers and engineers! Campers are introduced to concepts like renewables, recycling, energy conservation, and carbon footprints through building wind turbines, hand generators, and conveyors. Environmental Science campers finish the course with an understanding of environmental impacts of their everyday actions.

STEAM Quest Park

Join us for STEAM Quest Park Camp where campers will explore ramps, probability, gears, chain reaction all while building their own Park! Civil Engineering

Designed for your budding engineers, Zaniac's Civil Engineering camp explores the concepts of building and construction through hands-on exploration and design. Structural design is all around us. Bridges, roads, conveyor belts, skyscrapers, and dams. And what about buildings that can survive a major earthquake without damage? Campers will learn through various challenges including the skyscraper challenge, the spaghetti bridge challenge and more!

Tinker & Code

Calling all young Coders! Coding is the new language your kids should be learning. Campers go through the engineering process from designing to building, testing and improving their inventions in a playful and creative way. Campers explore littleBits™ basics to build up their familiarity with the bits and electricity. Campers are introduced to coding through challenges including making their own programs for Dash & Dot using Blockly™. Campers learn to transform Dot into an alarm, play tag with Dash, or use Dot to control Dash. Programming lets them turn their silliest or most ambitious ideas and creations into reality.

Robots Ignite

Zaniac's Robotics Ignite LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Camp is designed for campers who are no strangers to LEGO® , but who are ready to step it up with the scientific method, forces and design. There is just enough hands-on building to keep the younger learners moving, but at the same time, we will be spending time figuring out how to get machines to make work easier for humans brings in the problem solving and critical thinking into equation. Students will learn the principal of Robotics with levers, inclined planes, pulleys, and screws and build motorized mechanisms in teams.

Green Bots

Green Bots LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Camp is all about taking care of our precious planet and designing environmentally friendly and earth-loving robots. The camp begins with the study of environmental science concepts such as renewable and non-renewable resources, carbon footprints, recycling, energy efficiency and water conservation, while gaining a deeper understanding of Robotics. Campers will develop a robot with green directives including windmills, solar panels, slugbots and more. Students learn the principal of Robotics.

Marine Bots

Filmmaker and National Geographic Explorer James Cameron on March 25, 2012, became the first human to complete a solo submarine dive to Challenger Deep, an undersea valley in the Mariana Trench of the Pacific Ocean known as the deepest surveyed spot on the planet. In Zaniac's Submarine to Robots LEGO® MINDSTORMS® camp, campers will discuss how robots can be designed as submarines to help discover and protect more of our oceans. In this camp, students learn principles of robotics, computer programming, and teamwork.

Biology Bots

Find out how robotics is changing biology. Today's researchers do biology in a whole different way to improve lives. In Zaniac's Biology Bots LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Camp, campers will learn about different kinds of robots used in the field of medicine and how robots help doctors reduce human errors in surgery. Students will design miniature bones and prosthetics for humans and animals and print these out on a desktop 3D printer. Students learn the principal of Robotics and Programming.

World Robot Olympiad

Inspired by the World Robot Olympiad Organization and the FIFA World Cup in June 2018, students will design and program robots to play popular sports including soccer, basketball and boxing in Zaniac's World Robot Olympiad LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Camp. The program is designed for students to help them develop their creativity, design & problem-solving skills through challenging & educational robot competitions and activities. ​Students learn the principal of Robotics and Programming.

Mega Bot Battles

Keeping it safe and keeping it fun, students in Zaniac's MegaBot Battle LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Camp will research, design and build futuristic cyborgs, ferocious dinosaurs, and fighting robots incorporating features like motion sensitivity, functional claws and hands that grab and lift objects, and wheels and legs that keep them on the move. Students learn the principal of Robotics and Programming.

Engineering takes Flight

The intersection of engineering and computer science takes flight with Drones! In Engineering Takes Flight, campers learn about drones and will use creativity and critical-thinking skills to successfully engineer the design and code behind two drone models. Students will discuss nature’s influence on the technology and the design of drones. Students explore physics and geometry to understand how the anatomy of a drone supports its course of flight and how to program their drone with block programming commands to pilot their drone's flight path. By combining these concepts, students will complete a variety of hands-on challenges and understand the real-world applications of drone technology.

Programming Electronics

The microcontroller is a fascinating piece of technology created by humans and it is all around us. And they were inspired from the brain! Programming Electronics Camp introduces students to this wonderful creation. With open source hardware, students learn programming logic through hands-on hardware projects, work with sensors to explore the science of light and sound, and build creatively with motors, wires, and real circuit boards. At the end of camp, students will have created their own Arduino Project that replicates the design and functionality of an animal. Let the imagination run!

Circuit Breaker

Next time your child watches a thunderstorm, with mighty lightning bolts darting down from the sky, he or she will remember all how they used electricity to design and create prototype electronics at Zaniac! Zaniac's Circuit Breaker Camp is a fantastic introduction to the world of electronics. With littleBits™, campers learn about basic inputs, outputs, analogs, electricity, and more. Students build projects ranging from synthesizers to flashlights, exploring the world through the lens of easy-to-build magnetic circuits.

Be a Coder
Python Coder

Given how many of the common functionalities that programmers need are already built into this programming language, Python is a fantastic language for intermediate coders ready to transfer programming ideas into instructions that the machine can interpret. Python Coder Camp takes your young coders to this next level. The best way to learn a language is with a product. Remember the game of Hangman, Guess the Number and Dice Rolling? These are a few of the playful mini projects the Python Coder will work with.

App Maker

Learn basic computer programming techniques while building a simple Android-based mobile phone or tablet game using MIT App Inventor. Learn and use real development techniques like event handlers, timers, lists, database management, and script generation to go from concept to a functional application that is yours to keep. After camp you can continue to develop your favorite apps at home, share them with friends via the App Inventor Gallery, and even sell them on the Google Play™ store!

Java Coder

Java is one of the most popular programming languages used to create Web applications and platforms. Designed for flexibility, allowing developers to write code that would run on any machine, regardless of architecture or platform. This is the perfect camp with students at an intermediate level of coding and a drive to create! Campers learn the basics of Java, a "write once, run everywhere" language. Explore principles like variables, classes, methods, code efficiency, and automation, all while building a text adventure game, a calculator, and more.

Code Maker

Calling all youngsters to learn coding! Learn basic computer programming skills using Scratch, a graphic user interface for drag-and-drop coding developed by MIT. Campers will learn concepts such as sequences, loops, iterative development, and debugging using a modern, block-based approach. Students create animations and videos to share with friends and family.

Web Maker

In Web Design camp, students create their own website, going from concept to functional hosted site. Campers will learn the basics of the HTML5 and CSS3 web languages, layout strategies, color theory, and responsive web design. Start by brainstorming your initial concept, wireframing a template in Moqups, building in Weebly, and tweaking the HTML and CSS to dial in the design. Web Design students also learn about site maintenance, including UX feedback, testing, updates, domain management, and hosting

Web Development with Java Script

Make things happen on a web page! Understand the programming language of JavaScript and become a website developer in training. Watch what you can make happen on a web page with JavaScript and how to use it to alter HTML coding. Change text and images on a website. Run calculations. Write expressions and learn how to use pop-ups. Understand what parts of a website use JavaScript, enhance your skills reading and writing JavaScript, and know how JavaScript affects a website

Cancellation & Credit Policy ZANIAC Summer Camp 2018

If you cancel your child’s enrollment, you must notify us in writing by April 1st, 2018. Full cancellations made on or prior to this date are subject to a $100 fee per child.
If cancellation is made after April 1st, 2018 and on or before May 1, 2018, we will issue you a credit for all tuition fees paid, valid only for Summer Camps 2019. Your credit is transferable to any family member.
N.B.: No refunds or credits will be given out after May 2, 2018 regardless of your registration date. Changes in enrolled weeks are based on availability.
It is understood that no credit will be given for absences (medical or otherwise), family vacations, transportation delays or withdrawals.
