Zaniac Summer Camp Descriptions

Global Citizens Week

A Global Citizen is someone who is aware of and understands the wider world and their place in it. During Global Citizens Camp week Zaniac will take learning into the real world and work to develop our Global Citizenship. Campers will learn and use different S.T.E.A.M. tools to build on their understanding of world events, think deeper about values that are important to them, and come up with solutions for global problems however big or small.


Environmental Engineering Lab

Grades PreK-K
Calling all young builders! Campers will learn concepts like renewables, recycling, energy conservation, and carbon footprints through building wind turbines, hand generators, and conveyors. Environmental Science students will finish the course with an understanding of the environmental impacts of their everyday actions.

Civil Engineering Lab

Grades PreK-K
Designed for your budding engineers, Zaniac's Civil Engineering camp explores the concepts of building and construction through hands-on exploration & design. Structural design is all around us! Bridges, roads, conveyor belts, skyscrapers, and dams. And what about buildings that can survive a major earthquake without damage? Campers will learn through various challenges including the skyscraper challenge, the spaghetti bridge challenge and more!

Minecraft™ City Rescue Squad Lab

Grades 1-4
In Zaniac’s Minecraft™ City Rescue Squad campers identify problems our planet is facing: earthquakes, hurricanes, water shortages, flooding and rising water levels. Campers are challenged to build cities that can withstand these challenges and keep populations safe while learning urban planning and building design using Minecraft™ to create planet friendly solutions.

Coding Apprentice Lab

Grades 1-4
Starting out with what it means to be digitally literate and global citizens in the 21st century,Coding Apprentice Lab offers two introductory levels to coding. The lab starts with Apprentice Coder in Scratch for true beginners and moving on to Apprentice Coder II for greater experience and understanding. Campers learn basic computer programming skills such as sequence, loops, iterative development, and debugging using a modern, block-based approach. Campers will create fun animations, videos and games.

Python Coder Lab

Grades 5-8
For the more mature coders, Python Coder camp is all about access to technology and rights as digital citizens. Given how many of the common functionalities that programmers need are already built into this programming language, Python is a fantastic language for intermediate coders ready to transfer programming ideas into instructions that the machine can interpret. Python Coder Lab takes your young coders to this next level.

Photoshop

Grades 5-8
Photography can be a powerful tool for social and environmental awareness. Photosop introduces campers to the world of photography & design. Campers will understand the basics of photoshop. They will work with layers, enhance images through color correction, edit out scratches from old photos or change the mood on a picture. They will begin to understand how to use filters to manipulate forms and shapes and to export and use their images on videos or movies. Campers will learn how to get professional photography results through exploration & creativity!

Sci Fi Week

Yesterday's Sci Fi is today's reality! This week's camps are designed to incite curiosity and imagination by allowing them to explore realms of wonder and possibility through speculative fiction. Great for story lovers and storytellers!


Sci Fi Robots

Grades PreK-K
As another gateway storytelling camp for the Little Zaniacs, Sci Fi Robots appeals to the futuristic imagination. Campers will discuss how science & technology can possibly happen in the future, in space and in a different dimension. Campers will travel through space and time, design & build robots with LEGO’s, littleBits and anything else they can find on campus! This is a great introduction to the world of robotics & physics.

Bots Ignite Lab

Grades 1-4
A.I. and robots are changing every industry from fast food to automobiles. Robotics Ignite LEGO® MINDSTORMS® camp is designed for campers who are no strangers to Lego®, but who are ready to immerse themselves in the world of Robotics and learn how the basics of how to build and program robots with the potential to change how we do things in our daily lives.

Drones Lab: Engineering takes Flight

Grades 5-8
The intersection of engineering and computer science takes flight with Drones! Campers will learn about drones and use creativity & critical-thinking skills to successfully engineer, design and code behind two drone models. Campers will discuss nature’s influence on technology and the design of drones, explore physics and geometry to understand how the anatomy of a drone supports its course of flight and how to program commands to pilot the drone's flight path.

Minecraft™ Telltale & Storytelling

Grades 1-4
When it comes to great storytelling, Minecraft™ is the perfect medium for creative campers! Campers will replace Minecraft’s™ popular protagonist Steve by creating their own main character and plot that they will direct. Playing in creative mode, campers will be able to build their world or spice the storytelling element in survival mode. Camp Instructors, or should we say, protagonists, will keep campers alert and ensure to make it a great story!

Wonder Lab

Grades PreK-K
Dash Bot and our Zaniac instructors will teach young Zaniacs how to code with Blockly. Campers will learn the basics of coding language with some help from our robot Dash. Blockly is an intuitive and visual way to learn how to code using interlocking, graphical blocks to represent code concepts like variables, logical expressions, loops, and more. Campers will use their new skills for game-based coding challenges, as well as building and programming robots.

Java Coder Lab

Grades 5-8
This is the perfect camp with students at an intermediate level of coding and a drive to create! Campers learn the basics of Java, a “write once, run everywhere” language. Explore principles like variables, classes, methods, code efficiency, and automation, all while building a text adventure game, a calculator, and more.

3D Engineering Design Challenge

Grades 5-8
Seeing the design that has been on your mind turned into a real physical thing is exciting even more so when you bring in fiction & fantasy. In the 3D Design Challenge, campers will learn the Iterative Design Process as a critical component of Engineering. They will research, construct, design and print solutions that will creatively solve challenges.

Movie Producer Sci Fi

Grades 5-8
Explore futuristic movie making with iMovie and an iPad. Campers will learn about film history & production, roles in a movie set, and what makes a good tutorial. Learn to create a storyboard and different parts of a plot. Explore stop motion creation and create a flip book. The final project is an imaginative and futuristic movie trailer or tutorial. This program not only puts the Arts back in S.T.E.A.M. education, but supports project-based learning and builds students' digital storytelling skills.

Space Week

Inspired by NASA's first test flight of its long delayed Space Launch Systems (SLS) Megarocket, this summer Zaniacs will explore outer space through game-based learning, engineering and design. Why limit our summers to earth? Let’s explore what's out there!


Space Engineering

Grades PreK-K
The earth is now full of robots, but robots in space are just as important to help us reach beyond our limits and learn about our universe. Zaniac's Space Robotics LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Camp focuses on innovation, creativity, and problem solving. Campers will discuss the challenges of exploring space & design and program robots that can do space travel and the moon walk for us. Campers learn the principle of Robotics & Programming.

Galaxy Engineering Lab

Grades PreK-K
Calling all astronauts! Space camp takes off in 5, 4, 3... Join us as we explore the moons and planets and discover the sun and stars. We travel through our solar system and participate in astronaut training activities. We explore the machines that get to space and build our own lunar rover.

Minecraft™ Time Capsule

Grades 1-4
NASA’s Mars 2020 mission is scheduled to launch in July/August 2020. Surface operations last at least one Mars year (about 687 Earth days). In Minecraft™ Time Capsule, campers will follow the Mission’s Timeline including pre-launch activities, the launch, the cruise (voyage through space), the approach, entry, descent, landing and surface operations. Don’t be surprised if you get pulled into a black hole and come out in an unexpected biome where time slows or speeds up and where survival depends on quick thinking and collaboration! This camp is a great way to get kids excited about physics!

Minecraft™ Newton’s World Lab

Grades 5-8
Zaniac’s Newton’s World Lab includes challenges with Liquid Physics, Electricity and Pistons, Electromagnetism, Newton’s laws and more. Each problem that campers encounter has a solution, but it takes a bit of problem solving to end it! Students learn to devise a solid method to problem-solve: Plan, Construct, and Test with a whole lot of fun added to it.

App Maker Lab

Grades 1-4
Learn basic computer programming techniques while building a simple Android-based mobile phone or tablet game using MIT App Inventor. Learn and use real development techniques like event handlers, timers, lists, database management, and script generation to go from concept to a functional application that is yours to keep.

Web Maker Lab

Grades 5-8
In Web Design camp, students create their own website, going from concept to functional hosted site. Campers will learn the basics of the HTML5 and CSS3 web languages, layout strategies, color theory, and responsive web design. Start by brainstorming your initial concept, wireframing a template in Moqups, building in Weebly, and tweaking the HTML and CSS to dial in the design. Web Design students also learn about site maintenance, including UX feedback, testing, updates, domain management, and hosting.

Python Coder Lab

Grades 5-8
Given how many of the common functionalities that programmers need are already built into this programming language, Python is a fantastic language for intermediate coders ready to transfer programming ideas into instructions that the machine can interpret. Python Coder Lab takes your young coders to this next level.

Photoshop MoonWalk

Grades 5-8
Armstrong was so caught up in the first moments of moon-based photography that mission controllers in Houston had to keep reminding him to collect some moon samples! In Photoshop MoonWalk campers will understand the basics of photoshop to turn a regular photo into a work of art adding effects working with layers, image enhancement editing and adding elements from different photos,. They will learn how to use filters to manipulate forms and shapes and to export and use images on videos or movies.

3D Game Design

Grades 5-8
The perfect combination of Design & Coding. Campers learn game design concepts including formalism, abstractionism, rule implementation, challenge/reward balancing, and paper prototyping. Campers create 3D character models using the modeling software Blender, and explore the history of video game design and how it relates to computer science. Campers will use the Unity game engine to map 3D environments, apply attributes, then design textures in Gimp to overlay on your game world and will bring their environments and characters to life using C#, a real-world, object-oriented programming language and learn programming concepts like classes, methods, and strings to create C# Scripts.

Expo 2020 Week

The city of Dubai will showcase the World’s Greatest Show this summer: Expo 2020! Zaniac is right behind this mega international event with its own S.T.E.A.M. campus and platform where Zaniacs from all over come together and connect with each other, share ideas, learn, and innovate.


Coder Zone

Grades PreK-K
Calling all young Coders! Campers go through the engineering process from designing to building, testing and improving their inventions in a playful and creative way. Students explore littleBits basics to build up their familiarity with the Bits and electricity. In Coding, students are introduced to coding through coding challenges to make their own programs for Dash & Dot using Blockly. Students learn to transform Dot into an alarm, play tag with Dash, or use Dot to control Dash. Let’s turn your silliest or most ambitious ideas and creations into reality.

Mechanics in Motion Lab

Grades PreK-K
There is just enough hands-on building to keep the younger learners moving, but at the same time, we will be spending time figuring out how to get machines to make work easier for humans. This camp is all about bringing in problem-solving and critical thinking into the equation. Students will learn the principles of Robotics with levers, inclined planes, pulleys, and screws and build motorized mechanisms in teams.

Coding Apprentice Lab

Grades 1-4
Zaniac’s Coding Apprentice Lab offers two introductory levels to coding starting with Apprentice Coder Lab in Scratch for the true beginner and moving on to Apprentice Coder II Lab for more experience and understanding. In these two Labs, campers learn basic computer programming skills including sequences, loops, iterative development, and debugging using a modern, block-based approach. Students create fun animations, videos and games.

Minecraft™ Craft your Future

Grades 1-4
Craft Your Future Camp is designed to groom an environmentally conscious generation of planners through the basics of urban planning, architecture & building designs. Campers research the type of structure they should build in view of the challenges of rapid urban growth, the rise of megacities, and the need to bridge supplies to cities and rising water levels. Campers learn to design using Minecraft™ and Tinkercad. Campers will take turns to tell stories about their newly built structures and settlements and how all of the places within it bring their miniature community together.

Young Entrepreneurs Lab

Grades 5-8
Zaniac Young Entrepreneurs aims to the process of design thinking as a problem-solving process and provides an authentic entrepreneurial experience for students with each session building toward a product-pitch competition. The program is designed to make it fun for the kids and tap into their budding entrepreneurial and creative mindset. We are doing this in association with Junior Achievement (JA).

A.I. & Machine Learning Week

Robots are only as smart as humans, so let's demystify how A.I. technology works. Campers will work as creators and not just consumers of A.I. by learning new technology and using it to try and solve problems that are meaningful to them.


Code Breakers

Grades PreK-K
In the funnest way possible to learn math and develop problem-solving skills along the way, Code Breakers campers take the role of spies this summer! Who doesn’t love to crack a code and discover the secret message hidden within? Campers will create scytales, pigpen ciphers and number puzzles as an introduction to the bigger world of digital coding. At the end of the week, Dash Bot will take code to the next level with the basics of the Blockly coding language.

Wonder Lab

Grades PreK-K

Minecraft™ Industry and Production Lab

Grades 1-4
A.I. is changing every industry from fast food to automobiles. In Industry & Production Lab campers explore the inner workings of manufacturing and heavy industry, ranging from baseline resource gathering to advanced metal production. With the simplified tools provided by Minecraft™, campers set up working and powered facilities dedicated to creating products from raw materials, and a logistics network that can quickly and efficiently move items to where they are needed.

Game A.I.

Grades 1-4
Intelligent toys and smart assistants are ever more present in our homes. Hello, Alexa! Game A.I. camp introduces campers to the concepts of A.I. and machine learning through hands-on projects so that they can start to make more informed and critical use of these technologies. With different languages, campers will learn to code popular games such as Rock, Paper & Scissors, Tick-Tack-Toe and others and train their own A.I. models to get better and better.

Game Theory Coding

Grades 5-8
Intelligent toys and smart assistants are ever more present in our homes. Hello, Alexa! Game A.I. camp for more advanced students introduces campers to the concepts of A.I. and machine learning through hands-on projects so that they can start to make more informed and critical use of these technologies. With different languages, campers will code simple chess & checkers A.I. models as well as train and improve them. A great introduction to coding through Game Theory and its applications.

Geography Tech Week

There are so many ways that technology has brought the world together and it's not just through social media! This week, Zaniac's will not only learn a bit of geography, but also participate in projects and create tangibles that bring the world together. Code a game that you can play with friends abroad. Build bridges, drones and so much more!


Ancient Egypt Engineering Lab

Grades PreK-K
Zaniac’s Ancient Egyptian Engineering camp explores the concepts of building and construction through hands-on exploration and design. Structural design is all around us! And what about these structures that have survived the years. Campers learn how the Egyptians built these wonders of the worlds with simple machines such as the wedge, pulleys, and levers.

Global Battle Bots Lab

Grades PreK-K
Keeping it safe and keeping it fun, campers in Battle Bots Lab with LEGO® MINDSTORMS® will research, design and build futuristic cyborgs, ferocious dinosaurs, and ghosting robots incorporating features like motion sensitivity, functional claws and wheels and legs that keep them on the move to participate in the ultimate battle.

Minecraft Geography Exploration

Grades 1-4
Campers learn about biodiversity by exploring different biomes, gravity, speed, area and volume and learn Geography, including continents, countries and cities and how biomes differ depending on the geographic area; how they affect living conditions and how we adapt to them. All this while working together with friends to accomplish group missions and playing the game they love.

Java Coder Lab

Grades 5-8

Inspired by the Tokyo Summer Olympic, Geogprahy week combines Design with Coding to challenge campers to design athletes playing different sports and state of the art sports venues - all in 3D! Campers will learn game design concepts such as formalism, abstractionism, rule implementation, challenge/reward balancing, game ow and paper prototyping and create 3D character models using the modeling software Blender. Campers will use the Unity game engine to map 3D environments, apply attributes, then design textures in Gimp and bring their environments and characters to life using C#, a real-world, object-oriented programming language and learn programming concepts like classes, methods, and strings to create C# Scripts.

Olympics 2020 Week 1

The city of Tokyo will host the 2020 Summer Olympics this year. Athletes give everything to their sport and deliver a wonderful international sports event that unites the whole world. During this week, campers will learn and apply technology to sports themed camps while learning about new cultures, countries, and traditions.


Olympic Bots Lab

Grades PreK-K
The city of Tokyo will host the 2020 Summer Olympics this year and little Zaniacs will be challenged to recreate this event's excitement through Robotics! Campers will design and program robots that can mimic athletes playing soccer, ping-pong, racing and the magical game of Quidditch! This camp calls for a lot of creativity, design & problem-solving skills and a lot of healthy competition!

STEAM Quest Apprentice Lab

Grades PreK-K
In STEAM Quest campers will dive into science, engineering, academics and exploration. This camp is designed to focus on creative thinking skills with hands- on engineering and science principles with a fun weekly theme for our youngest innovators.

Minecraft Tokyo Olympics

Grades 1-4
The 2020 Olympics Games start in July! What better way than to learn about geography through sports and Game-Based learning using Minecraft™ this summer! In Zaniac's Minecraft™ Tokyo Olympics Camp, campers will study and explore similar biomes as that of the Olympics hosting country, Tokyo, or any other country that has hosted an Olympic Game. Campers will learn about map making and challenged to design sports stadiums across their biomes equipped with connecting rail systems, water supply and more with basic crafting and building creation.

Web Maker Apprentice

Grades 5-8

Olympic Fashion Design

Grades 5-8
Inspired by the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in July, students will assemble their own Olympic uniforms from any sport through exploration of color theory, careers, and the history and future of the Olympic uniforms. Fashion students will create one-of-a-kind looks using the open-source vector graphics software Inkscape. Assemble your own 2020 Tokyo Olympic uniform through assembling mood boards, drawing vectors, arranging nodes, and layering color palettes.

Tokyo Battle Bots

Welcome to Zaniac 2020 Olympic Tokyo Robot camp! We incorporate sports into our camps and we are doing one Lab full of robotic olympic sports excitement! Each day campers will design and program robots to play a popular Olympic sport including soccer, basketball, volleyball, racing and of course we can’t leave out the magical game of Quidditch! Campers will use creativity, design & problem-solving skills to build and program robots that can play and win in these sports.

This Summer your child can enjoy a motivating rewards-based approach to reading science-based non ction & earn tokens to watch cool science videos & read science-magazines! Our reading camp uses an award-winning program from Readorium that will increase vocabulary knowledge and reading comprehension skills, improve strategic-thinking & study skills while developing a love for books!


Cancellation & Credit Policy ZANIAC Summer Camp 2020

If you cancel your child’s enrollment, you must notify us in writing by April 1st, 2020. Full cancellations made on or prior to this date are subject to a $100 fee per child.
If cancellation is made after April 1st, 2020 and on or before May 1, 2020, we will issue you a credit for all tuition fees paid, valid only for Summer Camps 2020. Your credit is transferable to any family member.

No refunds or credits will be given out after May 2, 2020 regardless of your registration date. Changes in enrolled weeks are based on availability.

It is understood that no credit will be given for absences (medical or otherwise), family vacations, transportation delays or withdrawals.
