Zaniac's STEM Learning Experiences For Schools!
Imagine your students as engineers for the day, immersed in the 3D design process or building motorized robots. Picture your students creating an app to integrate their classroom study and field trip experience.
Zaniac Field Trips are fun, engaging math and technology enrichment programs specifically created to complement your lesson plans. Our STEM curriculum is aligned with North Carolina Essential Standards.
Our flexible science, technology, engineering, and math program offerings allow you to bring your students to Zaniac for a full program or a customized field trip, or bring Zaniac directly to your students at your school with on-site instruction during or after school.
Here are some of our popular Field Trip options at Zaniac!
Integrated Technology Field Trip:
After a field trip to the Arboretum for discovery, or seeing a performance at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, come to Zaniac so your students can take what they learn and add a technology element to their discoveries. Use MIT's App Inventor to custom build an app and organize data. Add images and audio and transfer your app to a USB so your students can take it home with them. Or, your students can use Weebly to create a website published online and accessible from any device. Our Integrated Field Trips can be customized, and are a great complement to any off-site field trip experience.
Two Hour Excursions or Incursion Field Trips:
Introduction to Coding with Scratch – Learn the fundamentals of modern coding with MIT’s Scratch to create games, stories and animations. As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically.
App Creation - Using MIT’s App Inventor 2, the students can build a custom App to organize their data using tables or by plugging in Google sheets and showcase their project. Add images and audio to customize their App which would then be transferred to a USB for the students to take away with them.
Web Design - Using Weebly, the student will create an intuitive and aesthetically pleasing website that will be published online and accessible from any device. Weebly’s pre-created templates make this ideal for a first time user who has never programmed or designed digital content before.
Robotics – Learn Robotics using Lego’s latest Mindstorms EV3 system to build and program complex robots. EV3 robotics develop critical-thinking and problem solving skills. For tomorrow’s younger mechanical engineers, get up close and hands on with Simple Machines. Students look at pulleys, levers and how gears work making catapults and a Rube Goldberg machine.
Interactive Electronics - (Tinkering) – Learn the basics of electronics using Littlebits. This system of modules that magnetically connect are used to build projects from flashflights to synthesizers. Learn about inputs, outputs, analogs, electricity and more. Learn by working through electric engineering concepts that also teach 21st century skills.
Here's what one science teacher had to say about her Field Trip to Zaniac!
"My class and I really enjoyed our field trip to Zaniac. The day was engaging and educational for all of the students. The staff at Zaniac were very knowlegeable and they made each session interesting and informative for the students. When we got back to school, many of the students wanted to go to the websites introduced to them at Zaniac and continue learning at both school and home. I would definitely recommend a field trip to Zaniac to others. I hope we get to go back again later this year."
–Kayleigh Smith, 5th grade science teacher at Koontz Intermediate School
